History of the Club

Jiří Velden founded in 1963 a softball club. Later under the Faculty of Civil Engineering (Czech Technical University in Prague) with his team won historically the first republic championship in baseball. In time when he was a player and leader of the softball team by Sport Constructions Prague (where he was by coincidence also leader of the productive department), he was preparing  move of the whole team to TJ Kuželky Praha. Considering all matters he decided to finish his softball career and establish a golf club in the mentioned TJ Kuželky Praha.

The club was officially founded on January 3 1984. The official name: TJ Kuželky Praha - golf club. Afterwards entered into the Československý svaz tělesné výchovy (Czechoslovaque Sport Association) - into Golf Association.

Sequence number 10 was assigned. (Number 1 was Elan Bratislava)

At the beginning of 90´s Ing.Velden was looking for a suitable area for a golf course in the district of Prague 4 Hodkovicky, where he was born. Originally the locality in Branik "Ve Studeném" seemed to be very promising and the construction was approved by The Construction Department of the  C. Q. Office., but finally the project was not realized. Today, there is located in "Studené" the biggest baseball area in Central and Eastern Europe.

The area in Hodkovicky was looking extremely complicated for construction of a golf course, but finally in 1995 the building works, step by step, had started.  The project and the construction were led by the company GOLFLAND - Ing.Jiří Velden, and another three stockholders took care about the running of the club, helped each other with the official acts, managed the publicity and also physically praticipated in building works. First, the fenced area of formal horticulture SLZ Praha was rented from Prague City Hall. In this location were created a driving range, putting and chipping green and one track with holes on the both sides. This Phase No. 1 was completed with the ceremonial opening of the club on July 1 1998.

Statute of Civic Association "Golf & Country Club Hodkovičky" was confirmed by the Ministry  of Internal Affairs on June 19 1995. In september 1996, the club was transformed within ČGF (Czech Golf Federation) from the TJ Kuželky Praha to the above mentioned club. Number 10 of the club remained.

The fundamental contract with Prague City Hall about the rent of the whole area was singned on November 15 1998. "Povodí Vltavy" (Drainage basin of the River Vltava) then followed the same way. The founding team started the second phase of constructions- a 6-hole course. The complete 9-hole course could be realised in the third phase thanks to the new investors and owners Ing. Ptáček and JUDr. Javornický. The big flood in 2002 destroyed the original club room, maintenance hall and partly the course. The investment increased up to more then 80 mil. CZK. The flood however significantly speeded up the total cleaning of the area from all buildings, building courts, dumping ground and another objects.

During the phases of the construction new golf tracks were being opened until today. The well-known rule, that the golf course is never finished, is beeing confirmed as we are working on more and more details in the whole area. Today there is no doubt about the succes of whole project. According to the assistant editor of Czech mutation of GOLF DIGEST Antonín Ebra (member of the club) the golf area Hodkovicky is the most frequented one in Central and Eastern Europe. Of course, that is a great honour for our club and, together with satisfied players of our 9-hole course, this is the biggest award for members of all phases of the construction.   The whole "nine" was constructed in the area of formal concreting plant, building courts, legal but also ilegal rubbish dumps and the original high vegetation. Some of the new players can hardly believe that this is a newly built course.
